Tractor Tire Award of the Week - Bridesmaids

Have you ever watched a trailer and had that one scene, that one shot that made you go "Wow, that was cool!"? Or maybe there was something you saw that stuck with you, something that for some reason was in the back of your head and despite how insignificant it was you were waiting for it to show up in the final cut of the film. But when you watched the movie that scene was nowhere to be found or has been altered in a significant way. Well, that is what the Tractor Tire Award of the Week is all about. We try to track down those scenes that didn't make it into the final version of the film and make sense of them. Where in the film was it supposed to be? Why might it have been cut? Why has it been changed? We may not always have the answers for you but at least you will have your piece of mind and know that you aren't crazy. So, this weeks award goes to Bridesmaids!

Who the hell is this guy?

I guess this was gonna be a bad date scenario.

Wow, so far this is the worst case of seen-it-in-the-trailer-but-it-wasn't-in-the-movie yet this year. I mean if you watch the second trailer that was released there is an entire scene at the tail end of it that is no where to be found in the finished film. Becca (Ellie Kemper) supposedly takes pity on Annie (Kristen Wiig) and sets her up with a friend so she can have a date at the wedding, which actually makes sense if the film were more about the wedding. Unfortunately not very much happens in the bit but I can tell you that it doesn't appear to be very funny so perhaps it was cut for a good reason. Who knows how much was cut out when this scene was dropped but regardless it is strange such a big scene was taken out at the 11th hour (this is the second trailer released only a handful of weeks before the finished film came out). As for when it was supposed to happen in the timeline it appears to take place some time after the bridesmaids gown fitting scene since Becca's recommendation takes place in the restaurant just before that.

The bride to be takes a dip in the trailer but not the movie.

This one isn't too bad and can be explained pretty easily I think. For anyone that hasn't seen the movie yet, this scene does actually appear in the finished cut but it is slightly different. Lillian (Maya Rudolph) doesn't fall down running across the street but she does run across the street...sort of. In the finished cut she actually slows down to a halt in the middle of the street, squats down and apparently takes a giant steamer right there under her dress. You can chalk this one up to either hiding a joke by putting an alternate take in there or it being too racy for the trailer. In some ways I am happy this happened though because not knowing what actually was gonna happen helped make the scene hysterical.

These other suggestions never happened.

Lastly...I think, is this quick montage of the girls talking about the bachelorette party. In the finished cut the scene plays out just after Annie sends out an email about her idea of where to hold the party (that never happens by the way). She gets a call from Helen (Rose Byrne) where she recommends Vegas then from Rita (Wendi McLendon-Covey) for another Vegas vote to Becca and finally Megan who both vote for Vegas too. In the trailer it plays out with Helen still saying Vegas but Rita wants a strip club, Becca wants Disneyworld, and Megan once again tries for her fight club idea. In a broad comedy like this it isn't out of the ordinary for there to be so many alternate takes for scenes like this and they probably just threw them in the trailer to add some spice I suppose.

I have to admit that there are probably some other minor scenes or bits of dialog that didn't make it into the final cut of the film that I might have missed. The random nature of the trailer mixed with my not so good theatrical experience leads me to believe that I myself may have missed quite a bit but if there is one thing for sure the Blu-ray or DVD for Bridesmaids will most likely contain an unrated version along with a slew of cut or alternate scenes if this trailer is anything to go by.

Bridesmaids trailer:
Bride takes a dip scene at 1:08
Bachelorette party ideas scene at 1:32
Cut date scene at 2:16
