Have you ever watched a trailer and had that one scene, that one shot that made you go "Wow, that was cool!"? Or maybe there was something you saw that stuck with you, something that for some reason was in the back of your head and despite how insignificant it was you were waiting for it to show up in the final cut of the film. But when you watched the movie that scene was nowhere to be found or has been altered in a significant way. Well, that is what the Tractor Tire Award of the Week is all about. We try to track down those scenes that didn't make it into the final version of the film and make sense of them. Where in the film was it supposed to be? Why might it have been cut? Why has it been changed? We may not always have the answers for you but at least you will have your piece of mind and know that you aren't crazy. So, this weeks award goes to Rock of Ages!
Cut Scene #1-A
The best scene from the trailer...
Cut Scene #1-B
...did not make it into the movie.
This is probably one of the most obvious cuts from any movie in recent history. This was the scene that had Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) taking care of a rabid fan by signing her cleavage which (I thought anyway) ended the trailer on a high comedic note. The scene is clearly from the outset of the Rolling Stone interview he had but for whatever reason it was left on the cutting room floor. My only guess on why it was removed was because it might have been a little bit overkill by that point in the film where we had already seen countless women gushing over the rock star. I think this is just one of those simple, "It worked in the trailer but didn't work in the film" moments. I still would have liked for it to be included though because it still makes me laugh every time I see it.
Cut Scene #2
I don't remember this happening at the Hollywood sign...
While the above scene is memorable (and long), this one is fleeting but no less intriguing. With so many random musical numbers that felt overly disconnected from the story being told, it wouldn't surprise me if we had some numbers that were cut out entirely from the finished film. That is all I can figure this is from since the few times we see Sherrie (Julianne Hough) at the Hollywood sign (which is clearly behind her there), we never see her wear an outfit like that which is a nightie from what I can tell. Then you have the lighting and her dance moves which all lead me to believe this was just a cut musical number. Seeing as how long the movie already was, I don't think it was a bad decision to omit the scene if that is indeed what happened.
